Why is there no schedule or prices listed on the website?
The directors and teachers place each child individually by age and skill level into a class, or classes. We want the dancer to be effectively challenged, but still be able to progress at a comfortable level of training. We look forward to the opportunity to discuss your child’s situation. Please note each dancer is re-evaluated each year. If a teacher feels a student needs to be moved or try another class the teacher will come out and talk to the parent.
Why can’t my daughter be in another class? (With her friend, they go to school together and are the same age)
Dance Workshop directors and teachers want your child to succeed and have a good self image. Please understand just because the children are the same age doesn’t mean they are at the same level in dance with the same amount of dance experience.
Why do I need to take Ballet, Tap, and Jazz?
The Dance Workshop tries to build a well rounded dancer. We feel that each form of dance is important and correlates with other forms of dance.
What is a Stretch Class?
This class will be devoted to stretching, which is crucial to a dancer. An important factor in gaining flexibility is time. As a muscle is stretched, the muscles first reaction is to contract or to resist the change in muscle length. The muscle must be held in that stretch position for a prolonged period of time, this will cause the muscle to become accustomed to the new length. Gradually the dancer will train the muscle to accept the new length without resistance and therefore allowing the dancer to use the muscles in its full range of motion. This class will focus on: correct alignment, partner stretching, strength and conditioning.
Why take Tech Class?
It is important for competitions since Technique is one category in which the group is scored. Tech Classes allow the students to really concentrate on just that “technique.’ It also gives the students the opportunity for repetition, whether it is Ballet, Tap, or Jazz, the technique class lets the student focus on improving their steps, stretch, technique, etc. and not be concerned with learning a dance or formation. Tech classes can and will improve the dancer which will lead to a stronger and more confident dancer.
Why take Ballet Tech Class?
Ballet is the backbone of all dance. The lines and placement of the body taught in ballet class transfers to all other forms of dance. If you are a competition dancer interested in scholarships, then ballet is an essential part of the audition process. When trying out for Scholarships, ballet is one form of dance they use to eliminate students.
If I am in a competition class do I have to take a Tech Class?
Some competition classes are required to take all the Tech Classes. If you are unsure if this pertains to you then please ask. We encourage all competition dancers to take tech classes.
